“Bryson’s F.U.E.L. (Families United to Eliminate Leukemia) was founded in 2011, when our 4 yr old son Bryson was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia. We knew, like so many other parents, this would be a long & hard journey. Bryson’s treatment will last 3 ½ years if all goes well. Talking to other families going through this same fight, we knew our foundations purpose….To encourage and empower others, to get involved and make a difference for children with cancer.”
I don’t even know where to begin with this subject…it breaks my heart to see or even hear of a child having struggles so early on in life. For years I have tried to find charities that I can somehow make a difference with even if it is only in awareness.
During the filming of a “Car Warriors” episode I had the opportunity to meet Jim, a team leader from North Carolina and we exchanged stories of our children and I heard the story of Bryson. I will admit I got choked up immediately, simply because I know the love I have for my son and to try to imagine what Jim and his family were going through made me wish I could find a way to take the pain away. Unfortunately we all know someone that has either won or lost the battle with cancer and how hard it can be to go through the process.
During my cross country drive to the east coast I decided that instead of driving straight home to LA from Pittsburgh I would take the Southern route and visit Bryson. Jim owns a customizing shop called Street Customs and they do some amazing work of which I got to see some of their current projects before having dinner with the family and friends. You would never know of Bryson’s struggle because he had so much energy and was so excited I couldn’t keep up with him! After dinner we went for a ride in my Shelby…turns out he is a Mustang Lover like me and since we had plenty of power to spin the tires we decided to do some donuts…alot of them, We had a blast!
Hopefully you all have seen the episode of Car Warriors where Jim and his team compete and ultimately win the car for Bryson. If you haven’t check it out online!
Take a couple minutes out of your day to visit F.U.E.L.‘s website and spend a couple bucks..it’s for families with this struggle – you never know, one day it may be your struggle and F.U.E.L. will come to your rescue!
