The Shelby GT500 is one of the rare cars to produce enough horsepower to come with a twin disc clutch right from the factory and it doesn’t take but a few mods to push the original equipment to the limits but with all of the clutch and transmission issues from 2007/2008 models many have had clutch replacements at an early stage not because the factory couldn’t hold the power but there was a tsb (technical service bulletin, which basically says if a customer comes in and complains about this issue we have the fix as long as it is still under the factory warranty) released by Ford (which should have been a recall since damn near every one I have ever come in contact with had these issues and everyone already knows if there is a clutch issue the manufacturer considers a clutch maintenance and will not cover it so half of the cars never went to the dealer) that stated the clutch chatter on pullout was caused by a warped flywheel that ended up causing internal transmission damage.
Ford did it right by offering a new clutch and the replacement of all of the internal transmission components that were damaged in the process but many GT500 owners got the shaft just as I have. Many dealers do not have a “transmission specialist” so the car would go in for the repairs, the new clutch would get installed along with a new throwout bearing (which was destroyed in most cases because of the vibration in the input shaft) and then shipped out the door only to find that within a few thousand miles the same issues were back again because of the transmission damage that was never repaired. What basically happened is the techs would flag the time and never do all of the work and most GT500 owners don’t put as many miles on their cars as I do so they don’t find out until it’s too late that they still have a problem then it becomes an “out of pocket” repair like in my case.
Fidanza, like many companies out there, offer a replacement setup that has the same pedal pressure as stock but a heck of a lot more holding power (900ftlbs to be exact) for a lot less than the factory clutch $$. It comes as a complete kit along with a light aluminum flywheel to help quicken the revs. Fidanza offers clutch setups for just about any application from mild to wild. I have been using thier products for many years now with no issues what so ever.
