With the new 5.0 engine release for 2011, the GT is again, one of the most sought after cars for many reasons. Manufacturers are scrambling to develop parts and get them on display for the largest industry trade show in the country next month. For those of you that are “gearheads” and have never been to SEMA in Las Vegas, let’s just say its like taking a 5yr old to the largest candy store in the world and then telling him he can look, touch, and drool but there is no way he can take anything home!
This show is comprised of thousands of manufacturers from all over the world, well over a thousand customized cars and trucks, and “trade only” attendees that reach into the hundred thousands. All there to either display or checkout the newest, coolest, baddest 2011 aftermarket products. It’s literally 4 days, 8hrs a day of walking hell that will leave your hamstrings yearning for some gorgeous masseuse, that by the way can be easily found in Las Vegas, to work out all of those knots.
Well, enough about SEMA for now, let’s talk about this gorgeous Mustang that will be displayed in the Ford booth fitted with some of the new products released this year. In stock form these power plants put down an impressive 355rwhp on a loaded dyno. Ford rates this new engine @ 412bhp (crank hp) but they are obviously a little off. If you do simple math you will see that on a loaded dyno, the loss through the drivetrain is very close to 27% with a manual transmission so you would expect to see little over 300rwhp….NOT 355rwhp!
Manufacturers rate their vehicles low often but this is a little extreme! Checkout the torque, 377, this is the number Ford chose to use on low octane to rate the 5.0 but at the crank not at the rear wheels! The 5.0 is going to be a great foundation for power adders and it won’t be long before many shops across the country go after the “fastest 5.0 in the country” title. A GMS Twin Turbo kit was one of a few parts I installed on this car and after I dialed her in with only 6# of boost it ended up with well over 500rwhp on 91 octane fuel. If your heading to SEMA this year make sure you stop and check this car out!
